Having tea or a tea party involves lots of details. According to Jee Choe in “21 Afternoon Tea Etiquette Rules”, one mustn’t raise one’s pinky when drinking tea nor stir one’s tea in a circular motion. While we, at Southern Seasons, certainly respect such dedication to having tea, we don’t expect our guests to follow every traditional rule of tea. Instead, keep reading to see how we can tea-party together the proper Southern Seasons way!
When your party arrives, please wait to be seated. The tea room attendants will help you find the perfect spot for you to enjoy your spot of tea! Once you have been seated, please do not move tables. You are welcome, of course, to stand and move around the tearoom to chat and mingle with friends familiar and new, but think of your table as your home-base. It is here you will be served all of your tea room goodies.
Let us serve you your chilled beverages. We are so happy to have you as guests in our tea room, and we want you to feel welcome and comfortable. The tea room attendants will fill your glasses with iced tea or water. If you need a refill or want to try something new, please wait until an attendant is near to make this request.
The tea room attendants will also serve the first pour of the hot teas and come by to offer subsequent serves, but feel free to pour your hot tea in between those visits.
We also love when young guests enjoy their time in our tearoom! In our experience, children ages six and older have the most fun during tea services at Southern Seasons. Those under the age of six may need more attention and help with our china, so please be prepared to provide that attention.
And lastly, know that teatime is the perfect chance to sample lots of goodies! We have sandwiches, scones, and sweets aplenty on your platters and trays. If you’ve never had something or even if it’s familiar, we welcome you in trying our take on it. And we encourage you to try all the teas available! We certainly will not be offended if a tea does not suit your fancy. In fact, we might even brew something different that you’d enjoy more!
